Major League soccer is allowing its players to train individually by themselves outdoors at team facilities around the country starting May 6, a huge step forward in re-opening the top soccer league for the United States and Canada. The league suspended play of the season after 2 weeks of play on March 12, with multiple extensions being used to combat the spread of the virus.
Sources have noted that June 8 could be a resumption for the soccer games, but it probably is an overly optimistic goal because teams will need weeks to prepare, get back in shape, and form chemistry.
If the games do resume at some point, the league has considered and evaluated numerous proposals for locations and formats. A tournament held at a neutral location is the most likely format considered among the MLS league officials and owners. Los Angeles, Orlando, and Dallas have been considered among other cities. The tournament will be considered meaningful and probably have some sort of prize attached to it, like an automatic spot for the CONCACAF Champions League.
Like all the other sport leagues around the globe, fans will most likely not be allowed back into stadiums upon the resumption of play. Only essential personnel, players, officials, managers, and staff will be allowed in the stadiums on match day.
