How sports could come back during the Covid-19 pandemic

Many league officials for the NHL, MLB, and NBA are unsure when and even how the leagues can return to action at a time in which the global coronavirus pandemic is preventing the public from holding mass meetings and events. Having fans in the stands would endanger the health high risk people such as managers and the elderly. The virus has spread to all states and his taking a toll on many of the hospitals, especially New York which as become the epicenter of the virus in the states. May, June, and other mid-summer dates have been targeted for a return.

One way the leagues could resume is to have the players play in isolated ares of the country where the virus has not spread or there are few cases. The players would all be stationed in hotels and play in 1-2 arenas. Monitoring their health and getting covid-19 checkups every couple of hours would help keep everything under control. Las Vegas and the Bahamas have been discussed for the NBA. The NHL could host their game in Buffalo, North Dakota, or remote areas in Canada’s Providences. Proper facilities and arenas will be necessary as well as a week of preparation and team capacities to get the players back in form.

League owners will be watching closely to see how South Korean baseball will attempt to restart their league and what measures or policies they will implement. Social distancing, masks for players and team staff members will most likely be implemented. Playing in-front of empty stands will also be required and will probably affected playoff rounds as well.

For now its a waiting game. Officials, owners, and teams are desperately waiting and watching to see when the coronavirus pandemic clears up. Americans need their sports to cope with boredom and have some form of entertainment while they are sheltering in place throughout the states.
